Former “Superman” Actor: America Isn’t for Everyone

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Dean Cain, who played Superman in the series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” from 1993 to 1997, says that James Gunn’s “Superman” film, with an unofficial budget of $300 million, will face a fate similar to “Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler, due to its “woke” themes.

Cain told TMZ: “How much more woke will Hollywood make this character? How much more will Disney change ‘Snow White’? Why do they change these characters to suit the times? For ‘Superman,’ [his motto] was ‘Truth, Justice, and the American Way.’ They’ve changed the last part… they’ve changed it to ‘Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow.’ I don’t think changing beloved characters is a good idea.”

He continued: “The ‘American Way’ is compatible with immigrants, very much so. But there are laws. You can’t just come here and say: ‘I don’t want to get rid of all American laws because I want to live more like the people in Somalia.’ That doesn’t work, because you had to leave Somalia to come here… There have to be limits, because we can’t have everyone in the United States. We can’t have everyone; society will collapse. So there have to be limits.”

Gunn had previously told The Times London that his Superman is an “immigrant”: “The story of ‘Superman’ is the ultimate refugee story, who makes his home a better place.”

Gunn’s comments, in addition to Fox News, have agitated and angered some other conservative publications, who have predicted that “Superman” will be a “weird” film and have called for its boycott. Sean Gunn, James Gunn’s brother and one of the film’s actors, told Variety that those who don’t like the film’s themes are “not American.”

Despite all the controversies, “Superman” is expected to gross $200 million worldwide by next Sunday.
